Registration Deadline: 6 October 2024

Registration Fee: PhD and master students NOK 600,-; non-students NOK 1200,-

Capacity: Approximately 50 participants – first come first serve. The registration link will close once we reach capacity.

Dates (Provisional times): 11 November (10:30) – 12 November (16:00)

We welcome full presentations (12 minutes), speed talks (5 minutes), and posters related to your work, research group, institute, or knowledge of past, present, and future trends of deep-sea science in the Nordic Seas.

The symposium will include keynote speakers for their respective sessions, a poster session, workshops and break-out discussions, dinner, and social events. While a complete programme will be sent to registered participants closer to the date of the symposium, provisional start and end times are above to help with travel planning. 

While many topics can fit within the three main sessions, the particular themes of the programme that we would like to focus on include:

Past (Keynote Speakers – Anne Helene Tandberg) 

·   Global relevance of Nordic deep-sea research

·   History of deep-sea science in the Nordic Seas

Present (Keynote Speakers – Bodil Bluhm, Giuliana Panieri)

·   Knowledge needs and perspectives of the deep

·   Anthropogenic impacts in the Nordic Seas     

Future (Keynote Speakers – Kerry Howell, Peter Haugan)

·   Improving collaboration and standards in deep-sea science 

·   Observation strategies for a changing deep-sea

We aim to provide a relevant space from various deep-sea disciplines and institutions to create a conversation regarding the current state and future directions and knowledge needs in Nordic Seas deep-sea research (as well as a physical meeting space). As we put a great emphasis on networking and collaboration, we will not offer online participation for this event.
